Welcome back class 3!

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome back and into Class 3, I hope you all enjoyed the summer break, even if it didn’t go according to plan.

Reading will continue to be a priority this year. We have an allocated slot in the timetable for reading so please could your child bring their reading book and reading record to school everyday. Both year 2 and year 3 will have spellings to practice at home. They will be tested on a Friday and given their new spellings (for the following week) on the same day.

This term we will be basing our Literacy and Topic work on Space and Planets. The children will start by writing their own ‘Planet Reports’ with sun-headings which include appearance, landscape, weather and inhabitants.

Our mathematics work will start with place value of hundreds, tens and ones. We will be ordering and comparing numbers up to 1000.

There are a few faces that appear in Class 3 throughout the week. Mrs Davies will be in Class 3 all week and has responsibility for Art and Design on a Thursday afternoon. Mrs Carter and Miss Harker teach Music, RE and French on a Monday afternoon. Mrs Cooke will be teaching the year 2s for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) whilst I teach SPAG to the Year 3s. Miss Messenger is also continuing her role as volunteer Teaching Assistant.

PE will be taught on a Wednesday. However, please could all children have their PE kits in school everyday with long hair tied back and earrings taken out.

Year 2 children will continue to get a free snack for morning break, unfortunately from year 3, (Key Stage 2) parents are asked to provide a morning break time snack (a piece of fruit or a breakfast bar).

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to speak to me at the end of the school day. I am looking forward to working with you all over the coming year.

Kind Regards,

Chris Ford (& the Class 3 Team)
