Dear Parents and Carers, Monday 6th June 2022
Welcome back to the final term of this year, term 6. Our topic this term is Islands this has a geography focus as we learn the vocabulary for describing human and physical features of contrasting islands and gain an understanding of seasonal inland and coastal weather patterns.
In science we will be discussing ourselves, to understand the importance of exercise and hygiene, identifying what humans need to stay healthy and recognising the main food groups for making good choices, we will be exploring the traffic light system, visible on most food packaging. I will also be using the NHS better families ‘Change 4 life’ resources to support this theme.
Our English texts this term will be from a collection of ‘Katie Morag Island Stories’ by Mairi Hedderwick. We will be using these stories for forming narratives for report and persuasive writing. In maths, we will be covering statistics and recapping properties of shape. We continue to delve further into SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar rules) adding prefixes and suffixes to change the meaning of a word and including exclamation sentences and statements. We also have daily mental maths sessions for fluency in multiplication and division and our reading book changing days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Our PE session will still take place on a Tuesday afternoon with Allsorts. This term’s focus is on track and athletics.
For Art, we will be making clay coin sculptures with their portrait on the face. In computing, we will be using Purple Mash for creating animated stories. The series of lessons will provide an opportunity for the children to develop the skills to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content through the creation of their own animated story book.
