HAPPY NEW YEAR
This term we have some great topics – all starting with our class trip to the SS Great Britain in Bristol next Wednesday 16th January.
We’ll be learning all about the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and some of his marvelous designs and creations. Our work on Brunel will be linked to English, History, Geography and Science.
In Science we are looking at Forces – including gravity, air and water resistance and levers and pulleys.
In Maths this term, we will be focusing on number work – patterns, puzzles, addition and subtraction – as our core skills. We are also learning about the following:
converting kilograms to grams
converting litres to millilitres
converting milometres to metres
Converting ‘metric’ units of measurements to ‘imperial’ units – miles to kilometres
Number problems relating to the above
- Ratio and proportion
- Fractions and converting them to decimals – plus addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.
- Reading and plotting coordinates and solving reasoning problems
- Translations, rotations and reflections of shapes on a coordinate grid
- Drawing and interpreting pie charts and line graphs
Homework tasks will be stuck in books or given as a separate sheet.
All homework this term MUST be completed and books handed in on a Monday.
There will be a mixture of reading, maths and SPAG tasks to complete this term in preparation for the Year 6 SATS tests in May.
There is meeting for Y6 parents about SATS and residential on Tuesday 22nd January at 2:30pm in class 5.
