Class 1, Term 3

Welcome to Term 3 and a very Happy New Year to you all.  We would also like to say a huge thank you for all of our lovely cards and gifts, which were very much appreciated.

This term, the children will visit our exciting fiction library in the new building every Wednesday for a ‘library session’. During this session, they will be able to listen to stories and choose one book that they can bring home for the week.  This book can be shared at your own pace and could be used for a bedtime story.  Please keep it in the book bag everyday so that it can be readily changed each week.

In addition, we will now provide the opportunity for reading books to be changed three times per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).  This does not necessarily mean that books will be changed 3 times per week as we use your parental comments and our teacher judgement to consider whether they are ready for the next book. We would like to politely remind you that our expectation is that children are listened to by an adult at home at least three times per week and a written comment provided to evidence this.  There has been plenty of research to show that 5 minutes of daily reading is the most effective practice for reading progress.

In the next week we will also be sending out a letter outlining the details for a class trip in May as well as information about our ‘Balanceability’ sessions in Class 1.

Please see the attached Topic Plan to find out about our learning for this term, including:Class 1 Term 3 Topic Zog, Chinese New Year and The Three Little Pigs.

Kind regards

Mrs Baird, Mrs Mac & Mrs Pearce
