Welcome Class 2!

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to welcome you to Class 2 and let you know about our class routines and topics for this term.  Miss Harker will be our teacher on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and Mrs Clune will be our teacher on Tuesdays. Mrs Carter will be teaching music on Monday afternoons. Mrs Napier-Ford and Miss Seagar are our fantastic teaching assistants. Our book changing days will be Mondays, and Thursdays. We aim to read with children as much as possible and we have quiet time for reading every day, so please make sure children have their reading books and reading records every day.

PE sessions will take place on a Wednesday afternoon with Allsorts. The children will be outside as much as possible so you may wish to pack a jumper or other warm clothes in PE kits. Earrings need to be removed or covered and long hair tied back.

Our topic for Term 1 is Dinosaurs! Our first key story will be ‘The Little Green Dinosaur’ and we will also be learning to write instructions to explain how to look after a baby dinosaur. We will be learning about Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter and about the continents of the world. In science we will be learning about living things and their habitats. In maths we will be learning about numbers and place value, shapes and addition and subtraction.

In Phonics, we will be separating the class into phonics groups to ensure that we are progressing on from our learning from the previous term. Year 2 will be taught phonics with Mrs Cooke. Year 2 will have a spelling test on a Friday and spellings for next week will be sent home on the same day. Year 2 also have a times tables test on a Friday and will have a times tables book to practise in.

Class 2 can seem like a big transition for year 1. Please be assured we will take things gently and there will still be lots of time for learning through play. We have lots of exciting things planned. We are really looking forward to welcoming the children and getting to know everybody!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to come and find a member of the team.
