A thank you and some info

I start out by thanking FOSS, and the parents who support FOSS events, for the amazing support they give to the school. We are incredibly lucky to have such a talented and generous team – thank you for everything you do.
As we have some parent governor vacancies coming up in the next few months, I thought you may be interested to hear more about the role of Governors at Slimbridge…
The Governing Body meets once a term to review the work of its committees and to discuss the strategic direction for the school and issues that need the attention of the whole Body. Our three committees are: Finance and Premises; Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Welfare and Personnel (SHWP); and Teaching and Learning. We have an annual workplan that ensures we carry out our statutory duties, and we prepare minutes and reports that describe our work and decisions.
The Finance and Premises Committee reviews the financial picture for the school on a termly basis. We are also looking at how the proposed new funding scheme will affect the school. Work will soon start on the budget for the next year and the priority areas for spending.
The SHWP Committee reviews and monitors the ‘people-centred’ aspects of school life, such as the school’s safeguarding practices, continuing professional development for staff, and welfare issues for everyone in the school.
The Teaching and Learning Committee is very focused on the children’s progress and attainment – we review anonymised progress data throughout the year, and check that effective support is being given when it’s needed.
In response to feedback from last summer’s parent survey, Sarah Kiddle has been leading the development of a Parents’ Forum, which will provide a two-way channel for communication with the Governing Body. We’re looking forward to this development – it will be very useful to hear views from the Forum. We also encourage you to get in touch with Governors to share your thoughts about the school (email me on chair@slimbridge.gloucs.sch.uk or via Nikki Elliott in the Office).
