2D Shapes

This week in maths we have started looking at the properties of 2D shapes. We have been naming shapes, counting how many curved or straight sides they have as well as counting their pointy corners! When we played the shape feely bag game we realised that when we are describing a mystery shape to our friends we would have to give them details such as the length of the sides so they can tell the difference between a square and a rectangle. We have had great fun sorting shapes by their properties, playing shape lab on the computers, drawing 2D shape aliens, playing what am I? loop card game and practicing describing our shapes using the feely bag.

Some children moved on to sorting regular and irregular shapes.

Next week we will move on to look at 3D shapes and compare them to 2D shapes.img_44591 img_44571 img_44561 img_44501
